5 household cleaning chores you may tend to overlook

Whether you love or hate cleaning, the chances are there are things in your home that you forget to clean or don’t even consider. Here are 5 household cleaning chores you may tend to overlook.

Baseboards, cornice, and ceiling roses

You might not pay much attention to them, but these can attract a fair amount of dust, so if you haven’t given them a once over recently, it might be worth looking to see what state they are in.

The best way to clean baseboards is to wipe them with a damp cloth. Cornice and ceiling roses can be hard to reach, so if you have a cordless vacuum, add a hose attachment, preferably with a soft brush head and give them a quick clean.

Above and below your kitchen cabinets

You may do this as part of your daily cleaning routine, but many people will only wash the cabinet doors and inside the cabinets. If you fall into this category, it’s worth cleaning the tops of your cabinets once every month or so.

The underside of your cabinets, particularly those located beside your cooker, can become grimy if left unattended, so use a degreasing spray and a wet cloth and give them a good clean when you can. It will reduce any build-up and help to keep your kitchen smelling fresh and clean.

Solar panels

If you have solar panels on your roof, keeping them clean will ensure that they are working to maximum efficiency. The best way to do this is to use a non-abrasive sponge and a bucket of soapy water followed by a good rinse down with a hose.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself, there are companies that can help. CleanMySolarPanels.com, for example, will not only clean your panels but can maintain them regularly too. For this reason, the panels must be protected from damage or scratches in any way, so if in any doubt, leave the task of maintaining your solar panels to the professionals.

Garbage bins

These are probably the dirtiest thing on your property, yet many never bother cleaning them. Due to the amount of trash they encounter, they can become quite smelly and dirty, so the best way to clean them is with a pressure washer.

Give them a good blast, spray with a powerful cleaning fluid, then rinse thoroughly. This will also reduce the chance of maggots becoming an issue or other types of vermin trying to get into your garbage cans.

Doors and door handles

Your internal doors and door handles can become very dirty and be a breeding ground for unwanted germs, so if you don’t usually clean them, it’s worth adding to your list of regular chores. A quick wipe with an antibacterial spray will be sufficient and shouldn’t take long at all.

You may also notice fingerprints and marks all over your doors where family members haven’t used to handles to close and open them, so take care of those too. It only takes a few minutes but will help to keep your house looking clean and well maintained.
