Go away from the walls

When placing your furniture in a room, do not place it against the wall. This is especially important rule for the living room. You should place the furniture in the center. That way, it will be the central point, creating a warm atmosphere. It will certainly look better than stuck in a corner. Place your coffee table in the center of the room, and move things around.

Create a focal point

When you enter a room, there must be a focal point, or something that is the center of visual interest. Place items further as possible from the door.

No obstacles

So, you have to consider one important thing when deciding on where to place your furniture. And that is the movement. You have to allow movement. That means that you should have a path from the door to every piece of furniture. For example, you should be able to get to your sofa, or your wardrobe without getting to skip a chair. You should move freely, without bumping around in furniture angles. Also, you should allow enough space for cabinets and wardrobe. Doors should open easily, without bumping into anything or being an obstacle.

Do not forget the sunlight

Remember this simple rule:furniture should be further than your windows. You should allow for the natural sunlight to come in, without having a table on it’s way. That way you will have a bright and airy room. So, be careful not to place anything in front of your windows.

The size

When choosing furniture for a specific room, keep in mind the scale. Small rooms should have low furniture. High ceiling rooms should have high raised furniture, with legs.  For example, a massive chair will take so much space in a small room. Or, a small bed will get lost in a huge bedroom. Always choose the right size.
