The Three-Box Rule

Before you even start with the organization, take some time to purge the things that you don’t need.  The three-box rule is here to help you. This simple practice will help you a lot with decluttering your closet. Divide all of the unnecessary clothes into three boxes: Trash, Donate and Sell. Clothes that can not be worn should go in the Trash pile. Wearable items that are out of fashion can go to Donations. Clothes with tags on them can be sold to a second-hand store.

The One Year Rule

This rule is for the ones that have a full closet. And it states that if you haven’t worn an item for a year, it is time to let go. As simple as that. Seems like there is a reason behind this, so feel free to remove the clothes that you never wear. There are certain exceptions such as special occasion attire, so you can exclude them from the rule.

Organization

Once you have a pile of things that you do love and wear, you can proceed to the organization process. Divide these into two: clothes for hanging and clothes for folding. Things that can easily be wrinkled should be hanged. Get good hangers for your shirts, blouses, dresses, and jackets. You can fold jeans, pants, tees, sweatshirts, and other garments that are not prone to wrinkling.  Store away the winter clothing. Make sure that your knitwear is not in touch with any embellishments or rough materials.
